I've been sailing for @ 4 years. Took a beginner's sailing class at Old Dominion University then got into the Wednesday night races at Hampton Yacht Club. That first year I sailed on a Hunter. The second year I sailed on the Hunter and a J105. Last year I was fortunate enough to be picked up on the crew of a Pearson 30. Sailed the Wednesday night "practice" races and finally made it to the competitive crew. I do rough trim of the jib, fly the spinnaker, and am learning foredeck. The skipper says this crew is the best he's had in a while and it shows by our race results. This year I did my first night time race (Moonlight Triangle) and have participated in the Black Seal Cup, the Cape Charles Cup and the Stingray Regatta. I LOVE SAILING!!!
Trying to get my daughter into it. Was going really well, but she came with me one Wednesday when she had an injured arm and the constanta and fast tacking at the starting line before the race was very painful for her. She was a trooper though, I looked over once and she had tears streaming down her face but she never cried out and she kept up with the rest of us as we rolled to the port and starboard sides. My skipper says not to push her, but to let her come to it on her own.
