Started Sailing

Hi guys
My name's Mike, 15 :)

I started sailing when i was 11 with my school and i still go atleast once a week with my school to UKSA on the isle of wight so i get some solent sailing in ;)

I currently sail at datchet water sailing club, on queen mother reservoir, near windsor castle and staines i think.

I own a laser 3k from 1997 and i'm currently getting my dad into sailing.

I love the sport and think it's terrific but i'm not going to try racing yet, although i may try looking for a crewing place at some point just to get started with racing :)

Otherwise, i'm a qualified powerboater (PB2) and i'm about to start my day skipper theory (with school :D) and then do the practical in easter (at UKSA with school :) )

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum! I have heard of Datchet and Queen Mother Reservoir. Nice to find another inland sailor! I can't believe you haven't started racing, especially at your age and weight, you will be a huge asset to helms as I was when I was that age (2 years ago - I am now 17).

Awesome to hear that you are doing Day Skipper, I have always wanted to do that. I did 12 days yachting in Croatia with my 60 year old neighbour and had great fun (the highest we were in was a Force 7!)

I hope you do well. :) Are you doing your GCSEs?

Yeah i am taking them this year not sure if that's good or worrying though... oh well, and then on to a-levels next year.
And yes i know i really should be racing but i've never really felt too confident that i'm amazingly good so...well i suppose i'd better go and put myself up for a crewing job then, there's a race at datchet this weekend i think...probably too late by now though...
