Rigging a Sunfish Sailboat

For some reason, I cannot pull the mainsail up to the top. Does it matter how long the boom is to the mast?

The sunfish isn't sloop- but lateen-rigged.

Hi Mark,

Maybe you tried to position the boom BEHIND the mast, but with a lateen rig the lower-forward corner of the sail, where yard and boom meet, should be positioned on the leeward side and BEFORE the mast.
